Our story

About Woodvale

A working farm, a labour of love, and a place we want to share.

130 acres, many years in the making

Woodvale started as a dream and a run-down property. We bought the property in January 2012 — 130 acres of Queensland hinterland between Gympie and the Fraser Coast — with no real plan beyond wanting to live differently.

Over the years, the farm took shape. We planted the orchard, built the fences, brought in the cattle, and slowly, carefully, restored the original farmhouse and outbuildings. The cottages came later, born from a simple idea: that this place was too good not to share.

We're not a resort. We're a working farm that happens to have three beautiful places to stay. The animals are real, the eggs are fresh, and the silence at night is the kind you don't forget.

Meet the hosts

Tom & Donna

Neither of us grew up on the land. We both wanted to escape the suburbs. Eventually we discovered Woodvale, saw the potential, and got to work. On our journey together we have learnt a lot, made mistakes, and were then introduced to holistic farm management and regenerative agriculture. These concepts really resonated with us, fulfilling an inner knowing of being the right thing to do.. Donna has loved the outdoors and animals her whole life, horses especially. That passion never left her, and it's part of what drew us toward a different kind of life. Tom handles the heavy-duty farm work — the fencing, the machinery, the things that need muscle and patience. Donna keeps everything else running: the farm, the cottages, and making sure every guest feels genuinely looked after from the moment they arrive. We're still learning, still building, and still a little amazed that this is our life now. We hope that when you stay at Woodvale, you feel some of that too.

"We built this place for people who need to slow down. We hope it does that for you."

How we do things

Slow by design

No check-in kiosks, no QR code menus. Arrive at any time after 2pm, we leave you to your privacy with self check-in. We are always available if you need assistance.

Working farm, real animals

The livestock and wildlife are part of the property — not props. Guests are encouraged to simply watch from a distance, as they are not tame nor pets.

Low footprint

Solar power, rainwater, composting, and a kitchen garden. We try to tread lightly and encourage our guests to do the same.

Genuinely local

The breakfast basket is stocked with fresh eggs from our hens and local produce when available.  Our first choice is to purchase locally and support local businesses and other regenerative farmers.
